Walter Ortiz, jefe policial de la Macro Región Sur, indicó que 500 vehículos de la Policía deben ser dados de baja a causa del vencimiento de su vida útil. De esta forma, solo se contaría con 700 patrulleros en funcionamiento para combatir el crimen.,El jefe policial de la Macro Región Sur, general PNP Walter Ortiz, indicó que el 10% de los patrulleros inteligentes de Arequipa están inoperativos. Como se recuerda, el último reporte del Ministerio del Interior señaló que a nivel nacional un 43% de los 800 patrulleros inteligentes comprados por Ollanta Humala están inactivos. Sin embargo, Ortiz señaló que la prioridad es reemplazar 500 vehículos policiales (entre motocicletas, autos, buses), obsoletos porque venció su periodo de utilidad. "Mejor es llevarlos a la chatarrería y renovar la flota", expresó. La Región Policial Arequipa cuenta con otros 700 vehículos en operatividad.
