El Pentágono ha informado a la agencia TASS que está analizando los datos sobre un nuevo misil balístico intercontinental de Corea del Norte, el cual que fue presentado este sábado 10 de octubre en el desfile militar de Pionyang.
“Estamos al tanto de los mensajes sobre el desfile. Seguimos con nuestro análisis y estamos en contacto con aliados en la región”, declararon desde el Departamento de Defensa.
Washington “todavía se guía por la visión establecida por el presidente Donald Trump y el líder Kim Jong-un, en Singapur, y pide a Corea del Norte que entable negociaciones prolongadas y significativas para lograr la desnuclearización completa", comunicó el Departamento de Estado este domingo.

En la víspera, el misil balístico intercontinental (ICBM) constituyó el apogeo del desfile nocturno celebrado en la capital norcoreana. Fue colocado en un vehículo lanzador que desfiló por la plaza Kim Il Sung.
Se trata del misil móvil de combustible líquido más grande del mundo, y muy probablemente fue diseñado para transportar una ojiva de varias cabezas nucleares (MIRV). Lo llevaron en un vehículo de 11 ejes, algo nunca antes visto. Y el modelo es mucho más grande que el de los vehículos de ocho ejes fabricados en China que el norte suele utilizar.

El nuevo misil presentado por Corea del Norte significa una “amenaza explícita” al sistema de defensa antimisiles estadounidense, pero también un desafío implícito al presidente Donald Trump, según los especialistas.
Jeffrey Lewis, del Middlebury Institute, ha señalado a la AFP que el régimen norcoreano busca “claramente poner a prueba el sistema de defensa antimisiles de Estados Unidos en Alaska”.
El experto explicó que si el ICBM comporta tres o cuatro ojivas, Estados Unidos deberá gastar cerca de 1.000 millones de dólares para tener entre 12 y 16 interceptores por cada misil. “A ese precio, estoy casi seguro de que Corea del Norte puede añadir ojivas más rápido de lo que nosotros podemos añadir interceptores”, señaló.
Se calcula que el misil mide 24 metros de largo y que tiene un diámetro de 2,5 metros, lo cual, según el especialista Markus Schiller, permite cargar 100 toneladas de carburante.
“Lo queramos o no, Corea del Norte es una potencia nuclear y es probablemente la tercera potencia nuclear capaz de atacar ciudades estadounidenses, por detrás de Rusia y China”, declaró Andrei Lankov, del Korea Risk Group.
Más de 12 horas después de que terminara el desfile, la televisión norcoreana subrayó que ni Trump ni su rival demócrata en las elecciones presidenciales, Joe Biden, tuitearon. Según Shin Beom-chul, del Instituto de Investigación coreano para la Seguridad Nacional, al exhibir el misil y no lanzarlo, Pionyang evitó cruzar una línea roja.
“Pero esto muestra que Corea del Norte podría proceder a un lanzamiento si Trump resulta reelegido e ignora la cuestión norcoreana”, matizó a la AFP, algo que también podría hacer “si Biden es elegido y no escucha” a Pionyang.
