El sismo, registrado a las 17.31 horas, tuvo su epicentro 19 km al sureste de Yaguaraparo, estado Sucre, unos 400 km al este de Caracas, y se produjo a una profundidad de 0,1 km, de acuerdo con la Fundación Venezolana de Investigaciones Sismológicas (FUNVISIS). De momento, las autoridades de Venezuela no han reportado víctimas, pero los videos difundidos en redes sociales dan cuenta de serios daños materiales. El ministro del Interior venezolano, Néstor Reverol, aseguró en una rueda de prensa que se encuentran haciendo un rastreo en las diferentes localidades para calcular los daños materiales.
